Obituary

Margaret Stephens Orr, age 83, of San Mateo, Florida, formerly of Alto, Georgia, was called home by her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 22, 2020.

Born on February 2, 1937, in Charlotte, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Arthur Alexander and Margaret Ball Stephens. She worked in the banking industry for 40 years ultimately retiring from the Putnam County Teachers Credit Union in Palatka, Florida. Living in Florida, Margaret loved the ocean, but her heart would always remain in her beautiful North Georgia Mountains. Loved by family and friends, she will always be remembered for her soft, gentle grace and spirit. She was a member of Enon Baptist Church and previously attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Palatka, Florida. Above all, Margaret was a devoted wife and mother.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Mrs. Orr’s caretakers: Lori Ann Parker, Joan Godwin, and Juanita Hamilton. A special thank you to Haven Hospice-Roberts Care Center, all in Palatka, Florida.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Baker Orr and sisters, Shirley McGehee, Juanita Pless, Mary Strickland, and Brenda Bullock.

Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Orr of San Mateo, FL; sisters: Catherine Garrison of Pittsburg, PA, Barbara Poole of Lula, and Betty Ann Irvin of Lula; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 pm on Sunday, September 27, 2020, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Stone officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery in Lula with Rev. Len Land officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until the service hour on Sunday at the funeral home.

All attending should maintain social distancing and adhere to public health guidelines.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Hospice-Roberts Care Center, 4200 NW 90th Boulevard, Gainesville, Florida 32606.

Dear Debbie, We are family, connected by wonderful memories. Our parents playing cards late into the night, us listening to them laugh and carry on. I sure miss those times. I always thought your mother was the prettiest woman. You dear friend, are so much like her. We have all been blessed. My deepest sympathy and my prayers for the coming days. Love Denise

Debbie, my sweet friend, your parents and you are forever linked to my childhood, with all of the card games, barbecues and just fun that they had together almost every weekend! I remember them sitting at our table many a time, your mom and my mom rolling their eyes at the one-ups our dads were giving. Such fun and warm memories and such love for you and your sweet mom and dad. I miss those times, but so glad you all were a part of our life. Your mom was such a lady, and I'll cherish having had her as a part of my life. Much love to you during this time. April Curtis

My thoughts and prayers are with Debbie and our family during this sad time. My heart aches for the void in our family but rejoices with the assurance that I will see her again. So this is not goodbye, it’s just I’ll see ya later. So, Aunt Margaret keep a watchful eye on the pearly gates for one day You’ll see me walking thru. Take care of daddy until we can get there. You will be missed. ❤️

Aunt Margaret was a precious Angel. She fought hard until the end. Aunt Margaret had her own special Angel on earth.. her daughter Debbie. I didnt hear Debbie complain about taking care of her momma. The love and friendship they shared was priceless. We will forever hold Aunt Margaret close in our hearts and know we will see this sweet lady again one day. Love you Debbie.
