When Jackson enrolled at Riverwatch Middle School, in his seventh-grade year, I was honored to have class with him. He added a flavor to our classroom and school climate that was unmistakably positive. Jackson immediately grew close to his peers and to my heart and became one of my favorite students EVER. With his humor, smile, kindness, compassion, desire to learn, willingness to try new methods of analyzing literature and writing, and his devotion to his friends and family, Jackson was a true delight.

I remember one way Jackson demonstrated concern and love for his friends; a friend from his previous school was having some troubles, and Jackson wanted to help him. He sought my advice, and as he described the difficulties this young man was having, he had tears in his eyes. Though he was separated by distance, his heart was with his friend.

Another thing (of the many) I remember about Jackson was how much he talked about his family. He loved each member, and he would talk about someone new basically each day. One day I finally joked with him he was making up all these siblings, and we laughed later about how each time he told a story about one of them, I would say something silly like, "Oh, this is brother number 23," as if I did not believe him. Now, upon looking at all the names of the listed loved ones he left behind, I see he did have many family members he loved and who loved him.

I always say I learn as much or more from students than I could ever teach them. Sometimes, these lessons are academic, and others, I learn things about life. For example, Jackson introduced me to orange-flavored Diet Coke- and he would bring me different flavors to try, without being asked, just to share something he enjoyed. I will never look at fruit-flavored soda without thinking of Jackson's sweet smile.
As a class, the students and I laughed a lot, and Jackson, a beam of light, added to both the fun and the meaningful discussions we had. Jackson always wanted to do the right thing and make the right choices. He listened to and sought advice on how to handle situations, and he only wanted to help toward the best outcomes for anyone in his life. Jackson never wanted to let anyone down.

Even before receiving this news, I think of him often; and I am deeply saddened by his passing.

For Jackson's family and friends, please know he spoke fondly of you always, and he loved you. I am so very sorry for your loss- for the world's loss.

Jackson Royce Ingle, I miss you.
